The building that now houses the White Pillars Museum and De Pere Historical Society is the oldest building in De Pere – constructed in 1836, and listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The building has been a museum since 1973, and holds a wide collection of De Pere artifacts. The Museum also houses the Museum Archive Research System (MARS), one of the most comprehensive research systems in the state of Wisconsin. This system allows community members to search thousands of newspaper pages and photos to find historic information on family members and the community.
The mission of the De Pere Historical Society is to promote public awareness, understanding, and appreciation for De Pere’s rich historic past through educational programs. They aim to discover, collect, and preserve materials related to the deep history of our community.
This organization serves as a repository of information for others interested in the historical journey of De Pere and chronicles the events of the present for future generations.
