Artist: Peter Koury.
The murals, which drew direct inspiration from Koury’s regular photographic explorations within and around our community, were designed to showcase some of the local wildlife inhabitants that often go unnoticed in our daily lives. The title “For the Birds” was chosen for its dual meaning. The phrase can be seen as a dismissive quip, echoing the sentiments of those who view public art as a frivolous endeavor and a waste of resources but more in line with the artist’s intention, the phrase is meant to be taken literally. Koury created the piece specifically for the birds, with the hope that it would prompt viewers to pause, wonder, and perhaps even seek to identify the depicted birds and animals. Ultimately, his goal is to inspire individuals to spend more time in nature, cultivate native gardens, or simply venture outdoors.
